Excitement and enthusiasm have spread across Bagerhat district ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's upcoming visit, with residents expressing renewed hopes for economic growth and infrastructure development in a region that many believe has long remained deprived of adequate development opportunities.

The Bagerhat District BCS Officers Forum has described the visit as an important opportunity to unlock the district's economic potential, particularly through the development of Mongla Port and other regional infrastructure.

Dr. Md. Faridul Islam Bablu, president of the organization and former secretary to the government, who also serves as general secretary of the Bagerhat Medical Foundation, extended his greetings and best wishes to the Prime Minister ahead of the visit.

Dr. Faridul Islam noted that former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia traditionally began her election campaigns by visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet and also paid homage at the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) in Bagerhat.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had followed a similar tradition by beginning his election campaign with a visit to a shrine in Sylhet and subsequently visiting the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali during his trip to Khulna.

He further recalled that the Prime Minister recently attended a Bangladesh Navy programme in Khulna and visited development projects at Mongla Port and plots at the Export Processing Zone (EPZ).

However, due to his busy schedule, the Prime Minister could not visit the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali during that trip. According to Dr. Faridul Islam, the upcoming visit to Bagerhat and Khulna will provide another opportunity for him to pay his respects at the historic shrine.

During the visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a brief roadside gathering at Katakhali.

Mongla Port Development Seen as Key to Bagerhat's Economic Future

Expressing optimism about the district's future, Dr. Faridul Islam said the development of Mongla Port could play a transformative role in strengthening the regional economy and creating new opportunities for investment, trade and employment.

He expressed hope that the government's focus on Mongla Port and the wider economic potential of southwestern Bangladesh would accelerate Bagerhat's overall development.

On the occasion of the Prime Minister's visit, he called upon government officials, political leaders and other stakeholders to work together in a coordinated manner to advance the district's development.

Greetings Extended to Visit Coordinator

Dr. Faridul Islam also extended his congratulations to Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Administrator of the Bagerhat District Council, who is serving as the coordinator of the Prime Minister's programme in the district.

He praised Barrister Zakir Hossain's efforts in coordinating the visit and wished him success in ensuring the smooth and successful completion of the Prime Minister's engagements.

The upcoming visit has raised expectations among local residents and development stakeholders that Bagerhat may receive renewed attention, opening the door to greater investment, improved infrastructure and long-awaited economic progress.
